The Distributed Sensing Systems Group focuses on sustainable data acquisition from wireless sensors distributed over large spatial scales. It involves data captured from sensors through every day devices, such as mobile or smart phone, and purpose-built devices for data collection about the natural or built environment, called wireless sensor networks. More objects are now connected to the Internet than people, heralding the age of the Internet of Things. Our research is creating technologies that will radically improve the cost and quality of data gathering to enhance the understanding of our natural and built environments and provide the ability to protect and manage Australia's resources.
